FAQ

What is herbalism?

Herbalism, also known as herbal medicine, phytomedicine, or phytotherapy, is the practice and study of using plants and plant extracts to support health and wellness. It draws on both traditional knowledge and contemporary research to promote health, manage symptoms, and support the body's natural healing processes.
Herbalists often prefer using the whole plant rather than isolated compounds, believing this maintains the natural synergy of plant constituents.

Are herbs safe?

Provided they are used sensible, the majority of herbs are safe. There are 'scheduled' herbs that are considered unsafe. These are only available to qualified Medical Herbalists and do not feature on this website. However, since each of us is constitutionally unique, an individual may be sensitive to a particular hearb just as some of us are sensitive to a particular food. If a reaction is experienced then seek advise from your doctor or a suitably qualified healthcare professional who may well be able to recommend an alternative.

Where can I find a herbalist?

The oldest professional institution of herbalists is the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and can be found at www.nimh.org.uk or the Unified Register of Herbal Practioners at www.urhp.com
