Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which there is an overproduction of thyroid hormones in the blood, from an overactive thyroid. This causes a toxic condition within the body called thyrotoxicosis.
Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid hormone production within the body is below normal. The main purpose of the thyroid hormone is to run the body's metabolism. Inadequate thyroid hormone may result in growth and development being affected.
