A condition where the supply of oxygen by the heart exceeds supply. It is a syndrome, not a dis-ease entity. Severe paroxysmal pain in the chest lasting 2-10 minutes, characterised by feelings of suffocation and apprehension. Sense of constriction in front of chest may radiate to the jaw and/or the left arm. Common cause is the narrowing of the coronary arteries bt atheroma limiting the flow of blood in the heart muscle
